Tibau do Sul BeachBrazil Beach Guide
Golden sand, flat blue water, kite winds that deliver

About
Praia de Tibau do Sul stretches roughly 1,032 metres along a spit of golden sand where the calm blue water meets the broad expanse of Lagoa Guaraíras just behind. The geography here is genuinely unusual — you can stand on the beach and see open ocean on one side and a vast coastal lagoon on the other, the two separated by a narrow ribbon of land. The water is flat and calm, shaped by the lagoon-sea spit formation that also funnels reliable wind across the shore, making this a natural launch zone for kite surfers. It's a lively spot, but the faces you'll see are mostly local — this isn't the postcard-polished tourist circuit, and that's exactly the appeal.
How to get there
From Tibau do Sul town centre, the beach is a quick five-minute drive and is accessible daily by car. A ferry crossing also serves the beach, connecting it to the wider area — useful if you're arriving from across the lagoon. Roadside parking and some paid lots are available near the beach access, with pricing that varies by operator and season.
Who it's for
For couples
The sunset boat tours on Lagoa Guaraíras, just 0.5 km from the beach, make for an easy and memorable evening — flat calm water, warm light, and a local rather than tourist atmosphere.
For families
The flat, calm water and easy road access make this a low-stress beach day for families with younger children, though parents should keep kids firmly away from the kite launch zone at all times.
Our take
Praia de Tibau do Sul is safe for swimming and the flat, calm water is genuinely inviting — just respect the kite launch zone and stay clear of it. This is a beach that earns its reputation through geography rather than glamour: the lagoon-sea spit formation is rare, the wind is reliable, and the local scene keeps things honest. Come between May and October for the dry season and the best kite winds; skip March and April if lagoon water quality matters to you. It won't win prizes for seclusion — the vibe is lively and the golden sand fills up — but it never tips into the kind of tourist saturation you'll find further up the coast. Worth the five-minute drive from Tibau do Sul.
What to do
Lagoa Guaraíras, just 0.5 km from the beach, is the centrepiece attraction — a large coastal lagoon where you can kite surf, paddle SUP, or join a sunset boat tour. If you have a day to spare, Pipa village is about 8 km away and offers a full menu of restaurants, bars, and iconic beaches worth exploring. Nature lovers should also make time for the Santuário Ecológico a little further along the coast.
The narrow spit with ocean on one side and Lagoa Guaraíras on the other is the defining shot — shoot wide at golden hour for maximum drama.
Kite surfers launching against the flat blue water and lagoon backdrop give you action and landscape in a single frame.
Where to eat
Right by the beach, Cavalo de Fogo is the closest option at just 0.1 km, followed by Creperia por do Sol and Panda both within 0.2 km — good for a quick bite without walking far. If you're willing to go a little further, Pirambu and Natural Brasil are both under 1 km away and round out the local dining scene without straying into tourist-trap territory.
Where to stay
Falésias de Pipa is the nearest hotel at 1.9 km, a reasonable base if you want to stay close to the beach. Further along the coast, Ponta do Madeiro Pousada and Hotel Madeiro Beach – Chalés sit at 4.1 km and 5.2 km respectively, both well-positioned for exploring the wider Pipa area. Sun Bay Hotel Pipa and Pousada Tartaruga are further out at 6.5 km and 6.8 km, better suited to those prioritising Pipa village itself.
Photography
The lagoon-sea spit geography makes for a genuinely striking wide shot — position yourself at the narrow land bridge at golden hour to capture blue water on both sides simultaneously. Early morning light on the golden sand with kite surfers rigging up in the background is the most dynamic local scene you'll find here.
Good to know
Kite surfers launch directly from the beach, so swimmers must stay well clear of the designated kite launch area — this is a firm local rule, not a suggestion. The best kite winds blow from June through December, so expect the beach to be at its most active during those months. Avoid visiting in March and April if you plan to use the lagoon side — heavy rains in those months can degrade water quality in Lagoa Guaraíras. The dry season from May to October is the sweet spot for calm conditions and clear water.
