About

Praia da Solidão lives up to its name — Solitude Beach — delivering roughly 600 metres of golden sand backed by dense Atlantic forest on the southern tip of Ilha de Santa Catarina, Florianópolis. Blue Atlantic water rolls in against a shore that sees almost no visitors on any given day, and a freshwater stream crosses the sand before meeting the sea, a small but memorable detail. There's no kiosk, no sunbed rental, no bin — just forest, sand, and ocean. The trail from Pântano do Sul village takes about 20 minutes and keeps the beach exactly as wild as its name promises.

How to get there

The only way in is on foot. From Pântano do Sul village, follow the trail through Atlantic forest for roughly 20 minutes to reach the beach — daily access, no entry fee. There is no parking at the beach itself, so leave your vehicle in Pântano do Sul before setting off on foot. The trail can be slippery after rain, so wear shoes with grip.

Who it's for

For couples

The genuine isolation and the 20-minute forest walk in make Praia da Solidão one of the few beaches in Florianópolis where you can realistically have 600 metres of golden sand entirely to yourselves — bring a picnic and stay the afternoon.

For families

The trail-only access and complete lack of facilities make this a challenging day out for young children or anyone with mobility needs — the trail is inaccessible for wheelchair users and there is no shade infrastructure or running water on site. Older, trail-ready kids who can carry their own gear will find the forest walk and the freshwater stream genuinely rewarding.

Our take

Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen

No lifeguard, no signal, no facilities — Praia da Solidão demands that you arrive prepared and leave no trace. Swim with real caution: the beach carries a moderate swimming safety rating and there is nobody watching the water. That said, for anyone willing to carry their own water, food, and responsibility, this is one of the genuinely wild beaches left on Ilha de Santa Catarina — golden sand, blue Atlantic, a freshwater stream, and Atlantic forest pressing in from every side. Skip it entirely in June, July, and August when winter cold fronts bring rough seas and the trail turns dangerous underfoot. Come between December and March, walk the 20 minutes from Pântano do Sul, and you'll likely have the whole place to yourself.— The wmb team

What to do

Before or after the beach, the trailhead village of Pântano do Sul is worth a slow wander — it's a working fishing community with its own beach and seafood restaurants just 3 km away. Parque Municipal da Lagoa do Peri, about 7 km out, pairs a freshwater lagoon with Atlantic forest trails and makes a natural full-day companion. For those who want elevation, Pico da Coroa and the Cachoeira da Carabina waterfall are both around 4.7 km away and reward the effort with forest scenery.

Instagram spots

The freshwater stream crossing the golden sand is the most distinctive shot on the beach — frame it low with the blue Atlantic in the background.

The forest trail exit, where Atlantic forest canopy opens suddenly onto the full sweep of empty sand, gives a dramatic arrival shot best captured in the soft morning light.

Where to eat

You won't find a single bite to eat at the beach, so plan ahead. Bar Restaurante Saquinho, 1.3 km away, is the closest option after you return to Pântano do Sul. For seafood a little further out, Ilhota das Ostras is worth the 4.6 km trip, and Ana Maria and Perello's both sit around 2.8 km away.

Where to stay

The nearest accommodation cluster is roughly 13–14 km from the beach. Natur Campeche and Capricornio Pousada are both around 13–13.4 km out and suit travellers who want to stay on the southern end of the island. São Sebastião da Praia is another option at about 14 km.

Photography

Shoot from the point where the freshwater stream meets the sea at golden hour — the contrast of the stream cutting across golden sand toward blue Atlantic water is the defining image of this beach. Early morning light from the forest edge looking south along the empty shoreline gives you clean, shadow-free frames before any visitors arrive.

Good to know

No fires are permitted on the beach — respect this rule absolutely. There are no bins anywhere on site, so pack out every piece of waste you bring in. Bring all your own water and food; there is zero commercial infrastructure at Praia da Solidão. There is no lifeguard and no mobile signal at the beach, so swim with caution and tell someone your plans before you head down the trail.
