Toró Beach
White sand and crystal-clear water right in Llanes town

About
Playa de Toró sits at the heart of Llanes, a 600-metre stretch of white sand backed by the Islote de Entremis and lapped by crystal-clear Atlantic water. It's a lively, family-friendly beach where the town essentially spills onto the shore — you're never more than a ten-minute walk from a café, a harbour wall, or a medieval street. The Paseo de San Pedro cliff path frames the eastern edge, offering sweeping views down over the bay. Expect company in summer: this beach draws swimmers, families, and day-trippers in numbers. The mixed sand-and-rock seabed means the water stays visually stunning, but demands respect.
How to get there
From Llanes town centre, Playa de Toró is a ten-minute walk or a five-minute drive. Free parking directly opposite the beach fills fast on summer mornings — arrive early or accept that you'll use one of the paid options nearby. Note that some areas near the beach entrance have height restrictions, and motorhomes and campers may be prohibited at the beach entrance itself. There is no entry fee to access the beach.
Who it's for
For couples
The ten-minute evening walk from Llanes Old Town down to the beach, followed by the Paseo de San Pedro cliff path at sunset, makes for a genuinely scenic outing without needing a car. The combination of historic town, coastal views, and crystal-clear water is hard to beat on this stretch of the Asturian coast.
For families
Town-centre location means restaurants, toilets, and shade are never far away, which takes real pressure off a family day out. Keep younger children in the shallower sections and watch for waves pushing toward the rocks — the beach rewards attentive supervision with a beautiful, accessible setting.
Our take
Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen
Playa de Toró earns its popularity honestly — white sand, crystal-clear Atlantic water, and a town-centre location that makes logistics genuinely easy. But go in with clear eyes on the safety side: the rocks in and around the water are sharp, and waves can catch swimmers off guard. This is not a beach to switch off your attention. That caveat aside, it's one of the most accessible and well-rounded beaches on the Asturian coast, with the Paseo de San Pedro walk and Llanes Old Town adding real depth to a day here. Come in June or early September if you want the best of the weather without the peak-summer numbers. Skip it in winter entirely — the Atlantic is cold and rough, and there's nothing to gain by braving it.
What to do
The Paseo de San Pedro cliff path, rated 4.8/5, begins just 1.6km away and delivers panoramic views of the coastline and the Cantabrian mountains — one of the finest short walks on this stretch of coast. A kilometre from the beach, Llanes Old Town and Harbour holds 13th-century walls, Gothic palaces, and open-air art installations worth an hour of your time. About 3km west, the Bufones de Arenillas are natural blowholes that fire water jets up to 40 metres into the air — genuinely spectacular on a rough day. For mountain views, the Mirador del Naranjo de Bulnes is 14km inland and rated 4.7/5.
The Paseo de San Pedro cliff path gives a high, wide view of the full 600-metre arc of white sand with crystal-clear water below — shoot in the late afternoon when the light is warm and the shadows long.
The Islote de Entremis rock formation photographed from the waterline at low tide creates a strong foreground element. From the beach looking back toward Llanes, the town's rooftops and the old harbour wall add an urban-coastal contrast that sets this beach apart from the region's wilder spots.
Where to eat
Restaurante Mirador de Toró is the closest option, just 100 metres from the sand — convenient for a post-swim lunch with a view. Bar-Sidrería La Amistad, under a kilometre away, is a solid local choice for Asturian cider and straightforward food. If you're willing to drive a few kilometres, Casa El Rubiu and Restaurante Casa Poli both carry exceptional ratings built on thousands of reviews.
Where to stay
Don Paco, 1.2km from the beach and rated 4.5/5, is the most convenient base for exploring Playa de Toró and Llanes on foot. For a rural retreat, La Montaña Mágica Alojamiento Rural sits 13.6km away and holds a near-perfect 4.9/5 from over 1,200 guests. Campers have two well-rated options: Camping La Paz at 7.6km and Camping Naranjo de Bulnes at 13.8km.
Photography
The Paseo de San Pedro cliff path, 1.5km from the beach, gives elevated shots of the white sand and crystal-clear water against the Islote de Entremis — golden-hour light from the west is ideal. On the beach itself, the rocky outcrops and the town skyline behind the shore make for a strong wide-angle frame in the soft morning light before the beach fills.
Good to know
Caution is essential in the water: waves can push swimmers hard against sharp rocks both in the sea and on the sand, so stay alert and keep children close to shore. Avoid November through February — cold water and rough Atlantic seas make conditions genuinely unpleasant and potentially dangerous. Free parking opposite the beach disappears quickly in July and August, so walk from town if you can. The beach gets busy by mid-morning in peak season, so an early start rewards you with space on the sand.
