Beaulieu-sur-Mer BeachFrance Beach Guide
Belle Époque calm on the Riviera's warmest shore

About
Plage de Beaulieu-sur-Mer sits along the Côte d'Azur Est in Alpes-Maritimes, cradled by one of the Riviera's warmest microclimates and sheltered enough to keep the water a consistent turquoise. The beach is a mixed surface — expect a blend of white sand and pebble underfoot — fronted by a palm-lined promenade and intact Belle Époque hotel facades that feel lifted from another century. Minimal wave action makes the shoreline unusually calm, and the mood here is relaxed rather than performative. Villa Kérylos crowns the nearby headland, lending the whole scene an air of cultured elegance that sets Beaulieu apart from its flashier neighbours.
How to get there
Getting here is straightforward. From Nice, the train takes just 11 minutes with departures every 30 minutes; from Monaco, the same journey time applies. By car, Nice is about 20 minutes away and Monaco around 15 — paid parking is available at the port and in municipal lots at approximately €1.40 per hour, with limited free blue-zone parking of one hour also available. Sunbeds and beach services carry an entry fee in the range of €25–60 per day.
Who it's for
For couples
The relaxed vibe, palm-lined promenade, and intact Belle Époque architecture make this one of the more romantic stretches on the Côte d'Azur — an evening walk past the grand hotel facades after a calm swim is hard to beat.
For families
Minimal wave action and safe swimming conditions make the water approachable for children, and the flat promenade is easy to navigate with a pushchair — just note that dogs are not allowed on the beach in season, and always check water quality before letting little ones in.
Our take
Beaulieu-sur-Mer earns its reputation quietly. The warmest microclimate on the Riviera is not marketing copy, and the minimal wave action means the turquoise water stays glassy when other beaches are choppy. Water quality can be inconsistent, so keep an eye on conditions rather than diving in blind. The beach itself is compact — OSM puts it at around 31 metres — so this is not a place to spread out in August and expect solitude. What it does offer is architectural beauty, a genuinely relaxed pace, and proximity to Villa Kérylos and Eze that makes a full day here easy to fill. Come in June or September for the best balance of warmth and breathing room.
What to do
Villa Kérylos, just 0.5 km from the beach, is a remarkable museum worth at least a couple of hours. A short drive of around 3.4 km takes you up to Eze, a perched medieval village with panoramic Riviera views and a cactus garden. Further along, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Cap Ferrat — about 4 km away — is a palatial Belle Époque villa surrounded by nine themed gardens. The Quai de l'Amiral Ponchardier and the Bd de la Corne d'Or offer pleasant waterside strolls for when you want to stretch your legs.
The palm-lined promenade framed against the Belle Époque hotel facades is the classic Beaulieu shot — best captured at dawn when the light is warm and the promenade is quiet.
The Villa Kérylos headland at 0.5 km offers a striking elevated perspective over the turquoise bay, and the mixed white sand and pebble shoreline with calm water makes for clean, uncluttered foreground detail.
Where to eat
La Table de la Réserve, just 0.1 km from the beach, is the closest dining option. African Queen, Ambrosia, Pourquoi Pas, and Le Fabuleux Destin are all within 0.5 km and give you a solid range of choices for lunch or a post-swim dinner. Cafe du Centre, also 0.5 km away, is the nearest laptop-friendly café if you need a quieter pit stop.
Where to stay
La Réserve de Beaulieu & Spa is right on the doorstep at 0 km and is the defining grand address here, its Belle Époque facade matching the character of the whole village. Hôtel Riviera is a short 0.2 km walk away for a more modest stay, while Hôtel Delcloy at 0.8 km offers another nearby option. If you want a wider view of the peninsula, Hôtel & Spa La Villa Cap Ferrat is 1.6 km away.
Photography
The palm-lined promenade with Belle Époque hotel facades behind it photographs beautifully in the soft golden light of early morning, before the sun climbs high and flattens the detail. For a wider composition, the Villa Kérylos headland at 0.5 km gives you an elevated angle over the turquoise water and the sheltered bay below.
Good to know
Dogs are prohibited on Beaulieu beaches in season, so leave your four-legged companion at home. Camping is not permitted anywhere along the beach. Water quality can be inconsistent and occasionally murky, so check local conditions before swimming — if the water looks off, sit it out on the promenade instead. Arrive before the main daytripper wave in summer to secure a good spot along the palm-lined front.
