Jaundubulti BeachLatvia Beach Guide
White sand, open sky, and westward sunsets few find

About
Jaundubulti pludmale sits quietly on the Baltic Sea coast of Latvia, part of the Jūrmala commune, where the pine forest thins and the dunes flatten out compared to central Jūrmala. The result is an open-sky feel that the busier sections nearby simply can't match. White sand stretches underfoot while the grey Baltic water rolls in with a calm, unhurried rhythm. It's the kind of beach that slips between two popular sections and gets overlooked — which is exactly its appeal. Come evening, the westward orientation delivers sunset views that reward anyone patient enough to stay.
How to get there
Jaundubulti pludmale is easy to reach by car from Riga in around 28 minutes, making it a straightforward day trip on any day of the week. Access to the beach itself is easy and relatively flat. Free street parking is available in the Jaundubulti residential area nearby, so you won't need to plan around a pay system. There is no entry fee.
Who it's for
For couples
The quiet atmosphere and westward sunset views make Jaundubulti a genuinely good choice for couples who want to watch the sun go down over the Baltic without competing for space. The nearby Jomas iela promenade at 1.2 km adds a relaxed evening walk with architectural character.
For families
The easy, relatively flat access and quiet atmosphere suit families with younger children well, and the free parking nearby removes one logistical headache. Just note that no confirmed lifeguard service is present at this section, so supervision in the water is entirely on you.
Our take
No lifeguard is confirmed here, so that's the first thing to factor into your plans — moderate swimming conditions on the Baltic mean calm enough water most days, but you're on your own if something goes wrong. With that said, Jaundubulti earns its place as one of the more quietly satisfying beaches along the Jūrmala coast. The lower dune profile and open sky feel genuinely different from the central sections, and the westward sunset views are the real draw. It's overlooked not because it's lacking, but because it sits between two busier spots and most visitors don't bother to look. The nearest café with laptop-friendly credentials, St. Elmo, is just 0.3 km away if you need a coffee before or after. Come in June through September for the best conditions, skip the cold months entirely, and don't bring the dog in summer.
What to do
The historic Dubulti Train Station is just 0.5 km away and worth a quick cultural detour. A short walk of around 1 km brings you to Majori Beach, the central iconic Jūrmala beach framed by Art Nouveau architecture — useful context for understanding what makes Jaundubulti feel so refreshingly low-key by comparison. Jomas iela, the pedestrian promenade lined with Art Nouveau buildings, is 1.2 km away and a pleasant evening stroll after a day on the sand. Further afield, Baltā kāpa is an activity worth exploring at 7.9 km.
The open, low-dune profile gives you unobstructed horizon shots that busier Jūrmala sections can't offer — position yourself at the waterline facing west for sunset silhouettes against the grey Baltic.
The thinning pine forest at the beach edge creates a natural frame for wide-angle shots that capture the transition from woodland to white sand.
Where to eat
The closest option is LightHouse, just 0.7 km from the beach — a convenient stop before or after your visit. Legend Beach is 2.3 km away, and Barona Pērle is 2.7 km, giving you a small cluster of choices within easy reach. If you're willing to travel further, BambooK Ocean offers Japanese cuisine at 11.9 km.
Where to stay
Baltā Māja is the nearest listed accommodation at 12 km, a manageable distance for a beach base. Sky High Hotel is a similar distance at 12.4 km. Both require a short drive to reach the beach, but the free parking situation makes that easy.
Photography
The beach's westward orientation makes it one of the better spots along this coast for sunset photography — arrive in the late afternoon and frame the open sky against the white sand and grey water for the most striking shots. The thinning pine forest at the beach's edge also provides natural framing for wider landscape compositions during golden hour.
Good to know
No lifeguard service has been confirmed at this specific beach section, so swim within your limits and keep an eye on children near the water. In late July, standard Baltic jellyfish are a known risk — check the shoreline before wading in. Dogs are restricted on Jūrmala beaches from June through September, so leave your pet at home during the summer season. The cold season brings no facilities and little reason to make the trip, so plan your visit accordingly.
