Lloret de Mar Beach
Golden sands, blue water, Costa Brava's liveliest town beach

About
Platja de Lloret de Mar stretches 1,500 metres of golden sand along the heart of Lloret de Mar on Catalonia's Costa Brava. The blue water catches the Mediterranean light all day, and a continuous promenade runs the full length of the beach — perfect for an early-morning walk before the day heats up. It's a town-center beach in every sense: shops, restaurants, and water sports are all within arm's reach. The beach holds a Blue Flag rating and is fully accessible, making it one of the most well-serviced stretches on the Costa Brava. Expect it to be busy from June through August — this is no secret.
How to get there
The beach sits right in Lloret de Mar's town center — a five-minute walk or bus ride from anywhere in town, or under two minutes by car. Paid parking is available nearby in municipal car parks and Blue Zone areas: Blue Zone A costs €1.95 per hour with a two-hour maximum, while Blue Zones B and C run up to €15.35 per day; underground paid parking is also an option. During high season, finding a space is genuinely difficult, so walking or taking the bus is the smarter call. There is no entry fee to access the beach itself.
Who it's for
For couples
The continuous promenade is made for an evening stroll after the day-visitors thin out — golden sand on one side, the town's restaurants and bars on the other. A short trip to the Santa Clotilde Gardens adds a romantic, quieter dimension to the visit.
For families
The beach is fully accessible and Blue Flag certified, with easy access from town and full commercial services on hand. Parents should note the steep drop-off in the bay — the water shelves quickly, so younger or non-confident swimmers need close supervision at all times.
Our take
Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen
Platja de Lloret de Mar is exactly what it says on the tin: a long, golden, Blue Flag beach in the middle of a lively town, with every service you could want within walking distance. It's not a hidden cove — it's the main event, and it owns that role confidently. The steep drop-off in the bay is a real concern for families with small children, and jellyfish are a seasonal reality, so go in with eyes open. August is genuinely relentless with visitors; June and early September give you the same golden sand and blue water with room to breathe. The smoking ban is strictly enforced since 2024, which makes the whole beach a more pleasant place to be. Use the promenade, explore the Santa Clotilde Gardens, eat well at Al Freskito or Can Sabata, and treat this as the energetic Costa Brava base it was built to be.
What to do
The Santa Clotilde Gardens, just 2km away, offer cliff-top Noucentista-style botanical grounds with genuine sea views — a quiet counterpoint to the beach energy. A short drive along the coast brings you to the Vila Vella Fortress in Tossa de Mar (11.6km), a well-preserved medieval walled town that genuinely earns its 4.8-star reputation. Cala Bona at 4.2km and the Castell de Sant Joan in Blanes at 4.9km round out a solid day of coastal exploration.
The long golden-sand arc photographed from the promenade at sunrise gives you the full 1,500-metre stretch with blue water and minimal foot traffic.
The cliff-top Santa Clotilde Gardens at 2km offer a framed, elevated view of the coastline that reads very differently from the beach-level shots. For a historical backdrop, the medieval walls of Vila Vella Fortress in Tossa de Mar (11.6km) set against the sea are among the most photographed scenes on the Costa Brava.
Where to eat
For a reliable meal close to the sand, Restaurant Al Freskito (0.4km, 4.7/5 from over 3,000 reviews) and LA BRAVA Steak House (0.4km, 4.6/5) are both within easy walking distance. Restaurant Can Sabata draws serious praise — 4.4/5 across more than 6,200 reviews — and sits 1.1km from the beach. If you're willing to travel a little further, Gammarus Restaurant & Beach Club at 2.7km carries a 4.7/5 rating and a beach-club atmosphere worth the short trip.
Where to stay
L'Azure Hotel (0.8km, 4.6/5 from nearly 2,800 reviews) is the closest well-rated option to the beach. Hotel Samba at 1.1km offers a large-scale alternative with over 7,000 reviews, though its 3.8/5 score suggests it's functional rather than exceptional. For campers, Càmping Bella Terra on the Costa Brava (7.5km, 4.3/5) and Càmping La Masia (7.1km, 4/5) both offer solid options if you prefer to stay outside town.
Photography
The best light hits the golden sand in the early morning, when the promenade is quiet and the blue water reflects a clean sky — shoot from the eastern end of the beach looking west for the full 1,500-metre sweep. The cliff-top Santa Clotilde Gardens at 2km make a strong secondary location, with framed sea views that contrast well with the open beach shots.
Good to know
The bay shelves quickly with a steep drop-off — keep small children out of the water and stay close to the shoreline in shallower areas. Jellyfish sightings do occur, and occasional murky patches have been reported, so check local conditions before swimming. Smoking has been banned on all Lloret de Mar beaches since summer 2024, and fines reach up to €750 — don't risk it. August is peak season and the beach gets seriously packed; if you want golden sand without the shoulder-to-shoulder scene, aim for June or early September.
