Konnos Beach

Golden-white cove meets crystal-clear water near Cape Greco

FamilySandSafe

About

Konnou Beach sits on Cyprus's south coast, tucked within the Cape Greco area near Protaras, where golden-white sand meets crystal-clear water in a sheltered limestone cove. The calm, shallow bay makes it one of the most reliably gentle swimming spots on the island. Limestone formations frame the shoreline, and the clarity of the water makes snorkelling a natural draw. It's a family-oriented spot with a relaxed pace — the kind of beach where you stay longer than planned.

How to get there

From Ayia Napa or Protaras, the drive takes around 10 minutes by car. Bus 102 runs every 20 minutes from Paralimni, Protaras, and Ayia Napa. You can also walk or cycle from Cape Greco National Forest Park, or approach on foot from the Grecian Park Hotel. Free parking is available near the beach — note that parking along the forest road leading to the beach is prohibited for safety, so use the designated spaces created outside the forested area.

Who it's for

For couples

The sheltered cove and calm water make for an unhurried afternoon — snorkel together, then walk the coastal path toward Cape Greco as the light softens.

For families

Safe swimming conditions, calm water, and golden-white sand give families room to relax without constant vigilance — just respect the flag system and keep children away from the breakwater ends.

Our take

Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen

Konnou Beach earns its reputation as one of the calmer, cleaner coves in the Cape Greco area — the crystal-clear water and golden-white sand are the real thing, not marketing shorthand. Swimming is safe under normal conditions, but the breakwater ends and boat corridors deserve genuine respect; the flag system here is not decorative. Families will find it well-suited to their needs, and snorkellers get clear water with limestone structure to explore. Access is straightforward whether you drive, take bus 102, or walk in from Cape Greco National Forest Park. It gets busy in peak summer — arriving before mid-morning makes a difference. Worth the trip from either Ayia Napa or Protaras.— The wmb team

What to do

Just 0.3km away is Turtle Beach, worth a short walk if you're hoping to spot nesting activity in season. The Ayioi Anargyroi Cave at 1.1km is a striking sea cave accessible from the coastline. A little further at 1.5km, the Kamara tou Koraka natural rock bridge is one of the most photographed geological features in the Cape Greco area.

Instagram spots

Frame the golden-white sand against the crystal-clear water from the limestone edges at the cove's rim — morning light keeps the scene sharp and uncluttered.

The Kamara tou Koraka natural rock bridge at 1.5km is a standalone shot worth the short detour, particularly in late-afternoon light.

Where to eat

Nissia Bar and Grill is the closest dining option at 1.9km, followed by Le Cygne and To Ellinadiko — a regional taverna — both around 2.1km away. For something different, Sage and Ginger Asian Fusion, both at the Sunrise Jade complex 2.7km out, cover Mediterranean and Asian menus respectively.

Where to stay

Mimosa Beach, Harrys, and Kecropas are all within 1.3km, making them convenient bases for a beach-focused stay. Cavo Zoe Seaside Hotel at 1.4km and Cavo Maris at 1.9km offer slightly more distance from the sand without being far.

Photography

Shoot from the limestone edges of the cove in the early morning when the crystal-clear water catches the low light and the beach is quieter. The Kamara tou Koraka natural rock bridge at 1.5km is a strong secondary shot, especially at golden hour.

Good to know

Avoid swimming at the entrance and inside any boat corridors. Take extra care near the ends of the breakwaters that run parallel to the beach — sea currents can be noticeable there and the seabed drops suddenly. Never enter the water when a red flag is flying; a yellow flag means swim with great caution. No naturist activity is permitted here.
