About

Coral Bay beach curves gently between two limestone headlands on Cyprus's west coast, just north of Paphos. The golden sand slopes softly into shallow turquoise water — a naturally forgiving bay that makes it one of the safest swimming spots on the island. Blue Flag certification keeps the beach clean and well-managed, with a full strip of sunbeds and tavernas running the length of the shore. Watersports hire adds a livelier edge without overwhelming the family atmosphere. It's organised, it's pretty, and it delivers exactly what it promises.

How to get there

Coral Bay sits within the commune of Peyia, roughly 15 minutes by car from Paphos or just 5 minutes from Pegeia village. Buses run from Paphos every 10 minutes (journey ~22 min) and from Pegeia hourly (~14 min), making it easy to arrive without a car. A large car park sits directly behind the beach — free spaces exist but fill fast; paid options are available closer to the sand. Arrive early in peak season or you'll be circling.

Who it's for

For couples

The limestone headlands give the bay a naturally enclosed, scenic feel — walk to either end for a quieter stretch of golden sand away from the sunbed strip, especially on a weekday morning in June or September.

For families

Shallow, gently shelving turquoise water and Blue Flag safety standards make this one of the most reliably safe swimming beaches in the Paphos area, and the Ithaki Amusement Park just 0.7 km away gives kids a second option when they've had enough sun.

Our take

Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen

Coral Bay does what a well-run Mediterranean beach should do, and it does it reliably. The golden sand is genuine, the turquoise water is shallow and safe, and the Blue Flag certification means standards are maintained. The trade-off is that everyone knows it — July and August turn the sunbed strip into something closer to a beach car park, and parking becomes a genuine headache. Come in June or September and it's a different experience entirely: the water is still warm, the bay still beautiful, and you can actually find a spot to sit. It's not a secret, and it's not trying to be. For families especially, it's one of the most practical beaches on the island.— The wmb team

What to do

The beach itself is the main event, but the Ithaki Amusement Park and MiniGolf is just 0.7 km away — a handy option when younger visitors need a change of scene. History lovers can make the short drive to the Agios Georgios Basilica ruins (7 km), where Byzantine mosaic floors sit above a fishing harbour. The UNESCO-listed Tombs of the Kings (9.2 km) and Paphos Archaeological Park (11.1 km) are both worth a half-day if you want to balance beach time with something more substantial.

Instagram spots

Stand at the waterline near either limestone headland to capture the full arc of golden sand with turquoise water in the foreground — early morning gives you clean, uncluttered shots before the sunbeds fill.

The headlands themselves, shot from the water's edge at low sun angle, make the most of the warm honey tones in the rock and sand.

Where to eat

The Coral Oasis Tavern is the closest option at just 0.5 km, ideal for a post-swim lunch. A short walk further brings you to Dolce Vita for Italian, Gold Temple for Chinese and Indian, and Samisen for Japanese — all within 0.7 km. The variety is genuinely useful if you're staying nearby for several days.

Where to stay

The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort (0.7 km) and Ascos Coral Beach Hotel (1 km) are the closest options and both put you within easy walking distance of the sand. Aqua Sol Holiday Village and Villa Anthia sit at 1.2 km, while Theo Sunset Bay Holiday Village offers a quieter base about 3.5 km along the coast.

Photography

The twin limestone headlands frame the golden sand and turquoise water perfectly — shoot from either end of the bay in the early morning before sunbeds fill the foreground. Late afternoon light warms the limestone cliffs and catches the shallow water at its most vivid turquoise.

Good to know

Dogs are not permitted on the beach during summer — leave them at the accommodation. Sunbed zones are designated, so don't just drop a towel anywhere you like. In July and August sunbed rows pack wall-to-wall; arrive before 09:00 or visit in the shoulder months of June or September to breathe more easily. The watersports zone is clearly marked — swimmers must stay well clear of it.
