About

Bãi Dương is a 600-metre stretch of golden sand on the western edge of Dương Đông town, lapped by the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Thailand. Fishing boats are hauled up on the beach itself — this is a working shore, not a resort strip, and that's exactly what makes it worth your time. The water runs clear and calm on good days, and the pace is unhurried from first light to late afternoon. No sun-lounger vendors, no beach bars, no tourist infrastructure of any kind — just local life playing out the way it has for generations.

How to get there

Bãi Dương sits right on the edge of Dương Đông town centre — a five-minute drive by car or a short walk from the main streets. Street parking is available in the adjacent town roads at no charge. There is no entry fee. The flat sand and direct town-road access make it one of the easiest beaches on the island to reach.

Who it's for

For couples

A quiet early morning walk along the golden sand, with fishing boats as your only company and the turquoise Gulf stretching out ahead, is as low-key and romantic as Phu Quoc gets — follow it with sunset at Dinh Cậu Temple just 1.5km away.

For families

The flat sand and easy town access make logistics simple, but parents should note there are no lifeguards and fishing boat traffic in the water requires constant supervision of young swimmers — keep kids close to shore and away from the boat launch areas.

Our take

Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen

Bãi Dương won't win any awards for facilities — because it has none. What it has is honesty. Golden sand, turquoise water, fishing boats, and a town that gets on with its day without performing for tourists. Swim with care: no lifeguards, and active boat traffic in the water means you need to pay attention. Avoid May through October when the southwest monsoon degrades water quality. Come in the dry season, arrive at dawn, and watch the fishing community work — it's the most unfiltered version of Phu Quoc most visitors never see.— The wmb team

What to do

The Dương Đông Night Market, just 0.8km away, is the best evening move — fresh seafood, local produce, and real island atmosphere without the resort markup. Dinh Cậu Rock Temple is a 1.5km walk along the waterfront, a clifftop shrine that frames the harbour entrance beautifully at sunset. If you want to dig into island culture, the Phú Quốc Fish Sauce Factory at 2km offers tours of the working nước mắm production that has defined this island for centuries.

Instagram spots

The fishing boats hauled up on golden sand at first light are the shot — position yourself low and shoot along the hull line with the turquoise Gulf behind.

The view back toward Dương Đông town from the waterline, with boats in the foreground and the tree line behind, captures the authentic working-beach character that sets Bãi Dương apart from every other Phu Quoc beach.

Where to eat

Vibe Beach is the closest option at 0.5km, while Bếp Nhà — a Vietnamese kitchen — and Avenue are both under a kilometre away for a proper sit-down meal. If you're after something different, Phuzim brings Korean flavours to the mix at 1.1km. There is nothing to eat on the beach itself, so plan ahead.

Where to stay

The Crowne Plaza is the closest full-service hotel at just 0.5km, putting you within easy walking distance of the beach. For something smaller, Bamboo Cottages and Mai Phuong Beach Resort are both around 1.7–1.8km away. Fusion Resort Phu Quoc at 2.8km is the furthest option but offers a more resort-style experience.

Photography

Come at dawn — the combination of golden sand, turquoise water, and silhouetted fishing boats being readied for the day makes for genuinely compelling images that no resort beach can replicate. The late-afternoon light from the west also catches the hull colours of the moored boats beautifully against the Gulf of Thailand backdrop.

Good to know

Fishing boats are actively stored and launched from this beach, so stay alert to boat traffic when you're in the water — swim well clear of the launch zones. There are no lifeguards on duty, so swim within your limits and keep an eye on children near the waterline. Respect the fishermen and their equipment; this is their workplace, not a backdrop. Leave nothing behind — no littering, full stop.

Frequently asked

Swimming is rated moderate. There are no lifeguards, and fishing boats actively use the water, so you need to stay well clear of launch areas. Swim close to shore, keep children supervised, and avoid the boat traffic zones. The water is generally calm given the Gulf of Thailand setting.
Skip May through October. The southwest monsoon hits during those months and reduces water quality noticeably. The dry season — November through April — is when the turquoise water and calmer conditions make the beach worth visiting.
It's a five-minute drive by car from Dương Đông town centre. The beach is town-adjacent with flat sand and direct road access, making it one of the easiest beaches on Phu Quoc to reach. Free street parking is available in the surrounding town streets.
There is no food infrastructure on the beach itself. Your closest options are Vibe Beach at 0.5km and Bếp Nhà (Vietnamese) or Avenue at around 0.9km. The Dương Đông Night Market at 0.8km is the best evening option for fresh seafood and local produce.
It can work for families given the flat sand and easy access, but there are no lifeguards and fishing boat traffic in the water requires close supervision of young swimmers. Keep children away from boat launch areas and close to the shoreline at all times.
Dawn is the standout time. Fishing activity peaks at first light, the golden sand and turquoise water photograph beautifully in the early sun, and the beach is at its quietest. Late afternoon light also catches the moored boat colours well if dawn isn't practical.
Two firm rules: respect the fishing operations — this is an active working beach, not a tourist facility — and take all your rubbish with you. No littering. The fishermen's equipment and boats are their livelihood, so give them space and don't interfere with launch or storage areas.
