About

Platja de Muro stretches an unbroken 6km along the northeastern coast of Mallorca, its white sand meeting turquoise water in one long, unhurried arc. The beach sits within the municipality of Muro, backed not by hotels but by the Parc Natural de S'Albufera — a protected wetland that keeps the northern end refreshingly raw. Wooden boardwalks cross the dunes to protect the fragile ecosystem underfoot, and the Es Comú sector at the far end is designated naturist. It's a Blue Flag beach with safe swimming, easy access, and a relaxed pace that holds even when the sun is high.

How to get there

By car from Alcúdia, the drive takes around 15 minutes. Buses run from Port d'Alcúdia every 15 minutes and reach the beach in about 15 minutes. Parking is available on-site — free spots line the road, while paid lots sit closer to the beach entrance; in peak season, arrive early or you'll be walking further than you planned. There is no entry fee to the beach itself.

Who it's for

For couples

The naturist Es Comú end of the beach is quieter and wilder, with the wetland behind you and open turquoise water ahead — a genuinely private feel without going anywhere remote.

For families

Safe swimming, Blue Flag status, easy access, and wooden boardwalks that keep little feet off the dunes make this a practical and enjoyable choice for families; the shallow turquoise water along the main stretch is calm and clear.

Our take

Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen

Platja de Muro earns its reputation not through spectacle but through sheer scale and restraint. Six kilometres of white sand and turquoise water, a Blue Flag, safe swimming, and a living wetland on the doorstep — that combination is rare anywhere in the Mediterranean. The naturist zone and the S'Albufera boundary give the beach a dual personality: family-friendly main strip, wilder northern end. The trade-off is popularity — this is a busy beach, and August in particular is best avoided if you value space and sanity. Come in June or September and you'll find the same white sand and turquoise water with room to breathe. It's one of Mallorca's most complete beaches, and it knows it.— The wmb team

What to do

The Parc Natural de S'Albufera de Mallorca begins just 1.7km away — the largest wetland in the Balearic Islands, it rewards birdwatchers, hikers, and cyclists with landscapes that feel nothing like a beach holiday. If you have a car, Alcúdia Old Town is 6km south: medieval walls, Roman ruins at Pollentia, and a 13th-century church make it a solid half-day. For a longer drive, Cap de Formentor — Mallorca's northernmost headland — delivers panoramic views from its lighthouse some 32km away.

Instagram spots

The wooden dune boardwalks with the S'Albufera reeds in the background give you a shot that looks nothing like a standard beach postcard — go at golden hour.

The long vanishing-point view down the white sand at low tide, with turquoise water on one side and green wetland on the other, is the defining image of this beach. The Es Comú end, where the sand meets the nature reserve, offers a wilder, less manicured frame.

Where to eat

Figueret Restaurant, rated 4.8 out of 5 across more than 4,500 reviews, is 1.4km from the beach and worth the short walk or drive. Ca'n Punyetes and Can Matevet Restaurant are both around 3.9km away and carry strong local followings. Closer to the sand, Restaurante Isabella Beach and Ponderosa Beach are right on the beachfront strip.

Where to stay

Alua Boccaccio (4.5/5, 4,332 reviews) and Iberostar Waves Ciudad Blanca (4.6/5, 2,686 reviews) are both within 2.6km of the beach, making them the most convenient bases. If you want more space, Alcudia Garden Aparthotel (4.6/5, 7,626 reviews) is 3.8km away and one of the most consistently rated properties in the area.

Photography

Shoot early morning when the turquoise water is glassy and the white sand is free of footprints — the long, unbroken perspective of the 6km strand is most dramatic from ground level near the waterline. The wooden boardwalks with the S'Albufera reeds behind them make a strong late-afternoon frame, especially with the warm Mallorcan light coming in low from the west.

Good to know

The Es Comú sector is a designated naturist zone — respect it whether you participate or not, and note that it borders the protected S'Albufera wetland, so stay on marked paths and do not disturb the habitat. The wooden beach access paths exist for a reason: the dunes here are ecologically sensitive, so step off them only onto sand. August brings peak visitor numbers and intense heat — if you can shift your trip to June or early September, you'll thank yourself. Accessible facilities are available at the main entrance.

Frequently asked

Yes. Platja de Muro is classified as safe for swimming and holds Blue Flag status, which requires regular water-quality checks. The water is calm and sheltered, making it suitable for families and less confident swimmers. Always check the flag system on the day — a red flag means no swimming regardless of conditions.
Both free and paid parking are available. Free spots line the road approaching the beach; paid lots sit closer to the main entrance. In peak season — especially July and August — arrive early or the free spaces will be gone. No specific app or payment system is documented, so bring cash or card for the paid lots.
Avoid August if you can. It's the peak of both visitor numbers and heat, making the beach uncomfortably packed. June and September offer the same turquoise water and white sand with noticeably fewer visitors. The best window overall is June through September for reliable warm weather.
Very much so. The beach has safe swimming, Blue Flag status, easy access, and accessible facilities at the main entrance. The wooden boardwalks protect the dunes and double as easy walking paths for pushchairs. The main stretch is calm and well-serviced — just note that the Es Comú sector at the northern end is a designated naturist zone.
Yes. The Es Comú sector at the northern end of the beach is the designated naturist zone. It borders the Parc Natural de S'Albufera, so the area feels wilder and less developed than the main strip. Respect the zone whether you participate or not, and stick to marked paths near the wetland boundary.
Buses run from Port d'Alcúdia to the beach every 15 minutes and the journey takes around 15 minutes. It's a straightforward and frequent service, making a car unnecessary if you're staying in Port d'Alcúdia. By car from Alcúdia town, the drive is also about 15 minutes.
The Parc Natural de S'Albufera de Mallorca — the largest wetland in the Balearic Islands — starts 1.7km away and is excellent for birdwatching, hiking, and cycling. Alcúdia Old Town, 6.1km south, has medieval walls and Roman ruins. Figueret Restaurant, rated 4.8/5 with over 4,500 reviews, is 1.4km from the beach and a reliable lunch stop.
