Binimel·là Beach
White sand, turquoise water, and a wooden walkway to paradise

About
Binimel-La is a 250-metre arc of white sand on Menorca's northern coast, tucked within the municipality of es Mercadal. The water runs a clear turquoise — shallow enough to wade, calm enough for children. A wooden walkway threads across the dunes, keeping the landscape intact and making access straightforward for everyone. It's a naturist-friendly beach, so expect a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere where swimwear is optional. The Camí de Cavalls, Menorca's historic coastal trail, passes right through, connecting Binimel-La to some of the island's wildest scenery.
How to get there
The easiest approach is by car from es Mercadal — roughly a 10-minute drive. A large free car park sits approximately 400 metres from the beach, so factor in a short walk along the path to the shore. Ferry connections to Menorca are available via Trasmed, with crossings running around six hours, and there are longer ferry options and seaplane connections to the island as well. There is no entry fee.
Who it's for
For couples
The naturist-friendly atmosphere and relatively moderate visitor numbers give Binimel-La a genuinely unhurried feel — couples can walk the Camí de Cavalls to Cala Pregonda and back without the beach ever feeling hectic.
For families
The safe swimming, white sand, wooden walkway, and free parking make Binimel-La one of the more practical family beaches on Menorca's north coast — the shallow turquoise water is forgiving for young swimmers.
Our take
Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen
Binimel-La does a lot of things right without making a fuss about it. The white sand is clean, the turquoise water is calm and safe, and the free parking 400 metres away removes one of the usual Menorca headaches. The naturist policy keeps the vibe open and relaxed rather than resort-polished. What lifts it above a standard family beach is the Camí de Cavalls connection — you can walk straight to Cala Pregonda in under an hour and feel like you've earned the swim. Come in June or early September if you want the beach at its best without the peak-summer numbers. It's not a secret, but it's not overrun either.
What to do
From Binimel-La, the Camí de Cavalls coastal trail runs directly past the beach, giving walkers and hikers a ready-made route into the surrounding headlands. Just 2 kilometres along the trail lies Cala Pregonda, a striking beach known for its reddish sand — a sharp contrast to Binimel-La's white shore and well worth the short hike. Further afield, the Faro de Cavalleria — Menorca's oldest lighthouse — stands 11 kilometres away and rewards the drive with sweeping views across the northern coast.
The wooden walkway leading toward the turquoise water is the signature shot — shoot from low down at the walkway's start for perspective and depth.
The view back from the shoreline toward the dunes and scrubland gives a wilder, less-composed frame. For something different, the short hike to Cala Pregonda along the Camí de Cavalls adds reddish sand and dramatic rock formations to your set.
Where to eat
Isabella Beach Club, rated 4.6 out of 5 across more than 8,500 reviews, is the closest dining option at around 4.7 kilometres from the beach. La Frañola, just 4.8 kilometres away and holding a 4.7-star rating, is another strong nearby choice. For a more traditional Menorcan meal, Can Tanu in Fornells and Es Cranc — both about 6.7 kilometres away — are well-regarded local restaurants worth the short drive.
Where to stay
FERGUS Club Carema Splash, rated 4 out of 5 from over 2,000 reviews, is around 4.9 kilometres from the beach and suits families looking for an active base. Comitas Tramontana Park, 4.8 kilometres away and rated 4.4 out of 5, offers a quieter alternative with solid guest feedback.
Photography
The wooden walkway framed against the white sand and turquoise water makes for a clean, graphic shot — shoot early morning when the light is low and soft. For wider landscape frames, the Camí de Cavalls trail above the beach gives elevated angles across the bay and the coastline stretching toward Cala Pregonda.
Good to know
Binimel-La is naturist-friendly, so nudity is accepted — be respectful of others' choices either way. Swimming is rated safe, but the northern exposure means conditions can shift quickly outside summer; check the sea state before you wade in. Arrive before mid-morning in July and August to secure a spot, as visitor numbers pick up through the day. The wooden walkway is the only route across the dunes — stay on it to protect the fragile coastal vegetation.
