Pattaya East Beach
Koh Lipe's quieter eastern shore, white sand and turquoise calm

About
Tucked at the eastern end of Pattaya Beach on Ko Lipe, this roughly 200-metre stretch of white sand offers something the main strip rarely delivers: genuine quiet. The water runs turquoise and noticeably calmer here, sheltered by a rocky natural breakwater that juts into the channel. No jet ski operations means you can actually hear the sea. Snorkeling around the rocky outcrops rewards the curious — fish congregate where the reef meets the sand. It's a visitors-free extension of one of Thailand's most celebrated island beaches, and it earns its reputation.
How to get there
Walk east along Pattaya Beach's main strip for about 10 minutes — no roads, no vehicles, no parking of any kind exist on Ko Lipe, so your feet are the only transport. The closest international gateway is Langkawi International Airport (LGK), roughly 50 km away, with onward boat connections to the island. A national park entry fee of 200 THB is required; this goes directly toward Tarutao National Marine Park maintenance. Pay before you settle in.
Who it's for
For couples
The absence of jet skis and the naturally calm turquoise water make this one of the few spots on Ko Lipe where you can sit in genuine quiet — a rare thing on a popular island, and exactly what a slow afternoon together calls for.
For families
Safe swimming conditions and calm water sheltered by the rocky breakwater make this manageable for children, though parents should supervise closely near the rocky outcrops at water entry points. The short 10-minute walk from the main strip means you're never far from food or help.
Our take
Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen
This is the version of Pattaya Beach that most visitors walk straight past. The 10-minute hike east filters out anyone not paying attention, and what you get for that small effort is white sand, turquoise water, and the absence of jet ski noise — a combination that's harder to find on Ko Lipe than it should be. Swimming is safe, the snorkeling around the outcrops is genuinely rewarding, and the natural breakwater keeps the water calmer than the main beach. Come between November and April; the monsoon shuts the island down from May through October and there's no getting here at all. It's not a secret, but it's quiet enough to feel like one.
What to do
The rocky outcrops are the headline act — snorkel around them and you'll find fish life that the busier main beach rarely offers. When you're ready to explore further, Ko Lipe Sunrise Beach is just 0.5 km away, an east-facing shore with shallow, calm water and views toward Ko Adang. Ko Lipe Walking Street, 0.3 km from the beach, is the island's main strip of dive shops, restaurants and guesthouses — good for an evening wander. For the ambitious, View Point 1 and View Point 3 sit 3.3 km and 3.2 km out respectively, with island panoramas worth the hike.
The rocky natural breakwater against turquoise water is the defining shot — position yourself at the waterline looking back toward the white sand for a frame with texture and colour.
The eastern tip of the beach, where the outcrops meet open channel, gives you a clean wide-angle with Ko Adang in the background on clear days.
Where to eat
Cafe Lipe and Monkey Restaurant are both right on the doorstep — Monkey doubles as a Thai-Italian option if you want a break from rice. Phi Phi Bakery, 0.1 km away, covers breakfast with burgers and donuts alongside Thai staples, and Thai Thai at the same distance keeps things simple and local. Varin Beach Resort also serves Thai food 0.1 km out if you want a sit-down meal with a resort setting.
Where to stay
Charming Lipe Villa sits essentially on the beach itself, making it the closest base. Green View Resort and Akira Resort are both 0.1 km away — solid mid-range options within easy walking distance. If you want a bit more separation, Z-Touch Lipe Island Resort and Dong Talay Resort are 0.2 km out and still a short stroll to the sand.
Photography
The rocky natural breakwater makes the strongest foreground — shoot toward the turquoise water at mid-morning when the light is high enough to illuminate the shallows without harsh shadows. Late afternoon from the eastern tip of the beach, with Ko Adang visible across the channel, gives you a clean horizon shot with warm tones.
Good to know
The 200 THB national park fee is mandatory — have cash ready before you arrive. Rocky outcrops line the water entry points, so wear reef shoes or pick your footing carefully before stepping in; a stumble on wet rock is the most common mishap here. Boat traffic still moves through the channel beyond the breakwater, so stay close to shore when swimming. And under no circumstances collect coral — it's illegal inside Tarutao National Marine Park and damages the reef that makes this place worth visiting.
