Kélibia BeachTunisia Beach Guide
White sand, crystal water, fortress views on Cap Bon

About
Kelibia beach sits at the tip of Cap Bon, where the Gulf of Tunis meets the open sea and the water runs crystal clear — some of the clearest on the entire Gulf coast. White sand stretches along the shore, calm and unhurried, with a relaxed vibe that sets it apart from Tunisia's busier resort strips. Behind you, a Byzantine fortress crowns the hilltop, its ancient silhouette framing every view toward the horizon. Just steps away, a working fishing port adds an authentic, lived-in energy — boats come and go, nets dry in the sun, and the smell of the sea is real. It's a beach that earns its reputation without trying too hard.
How to get there
From Nabeul, the drive takes around 53 minutes by car or about 89 minutes by bus with hourly departures. From Tunis, expect roughly 102 minutes by car or a longer bus journey. Free informal parking is available near the beach and port area, so arriving by car is straightforward.
Who it's for
For couples
The relaxed pace, fortress backdrop, and crystal-clear water make Kelibia a quietly romantic choice — walk to the hilltop ruins at dusk and you'll have one of the best views on Cap Bon almost to yourselves.
For families
Safe swimming, easy beach access, and free parking make logistics simple for families; the nearby fishing port at 0.3 km gives curious kids something real to explore beyond the waterline.
Our take
Kelibia is the kind of beach that rewards travellers who push past the well-worn Hammamet circuit. The water is genuinely crystal clear — the clearest on the Gulf coast — and the white sand stays relaxed even in peak season. The Byzantine fortress looming above and the working fishing port next door give it a depth that pure resort beaches simply don't have. Swimming is safe, access is easy, and free parking means no friction getting here by car. The one honest caveat: facilities are modest, so don't arrive expecting a polished beach club setup. Come for the clarity of the water, the history on the hill, and a pace that still feels like the real Tunisia.
What to do
The Kelibia Fortress, just 0.5 km from the beach, is a Byzantine-era hilltop ruin with panoramic views stretching over Cap Bon and out toward Sicily — worth the short climb. Down at the Kelibia Fishing Port, 0.3 km away, you can watch the daily rhythm of an active harbour that also runs a seasonal ferry service to Trapani, Sicily. If you have a car and time to spare, the El Haouaria Roman Caves are about 30 km along the cape — ancient quarry caves carved into the cliffs to supply stone for Carthage, and genuinely impressive.
Frame the Byzantine fortress from the shoreline with the crystal-clear water in the foreground — the contrast of ancient stone and white sand is the defining shot of Kelibia.
The fishing port at 0.3 km offers colourful working boats against a clean coastal backdrop, best captured in the soft light of early morning. For a wider perspective, the hilltop fortress itself delivers panoramic views over Cap Bon and the sea that are hard to beat.
Where to eat
Café Cap Kélibia is the closest option, just 0.3 km from the beach — a natural stop for a coffee or a light bite. Restaurant Jammoulti and Restaurant Bar Monaco Bay are both under a kilometre away and offer a sit-down meal without straying far. Le Goéland, about 1 km out, rounds out the local dining options if you want a bit more variety after a long beach day.
Where to stay
Demeure De Charme Pieds Dans L'eau Mansoura is the closest stay, just 0.2 km from the water — as near to sleeping on the beach as it gets. Dar Fatma and Résidence Asma are both around 0.4 km away, offering a more intimate guesthouse feel typical of Cap Bon. Dar Salma and Résidence Petit-Paris sit a little further at 0.6 km, still an easy walk to the sand.
Photography
The Byzantine fortress at 0.5 km is the standout backdrop — shoot from the beach at golden hour when the hilltop ruins catch the warm light above the crystal-clear water. The fishing port at 0.3 km is best in the early morning, when boats return and the white sand and clear water reflect the soft dawn light.
Good to know
Swimming is rated safe here, and the calm, clear water makes it genuinely inviting for all ages. Visit in June through September for the best conditions — outside that window the weather can be unpredictable. The beach sees moderate visitor numbers, so early mornings reward you with space and glassy water before the day-trippers arrive. Accessibility is likely manageable on the flat sandy beach, but facilities for mobility-impaired visitors have not been confirmed, so check ahead if this matters to your group.
