Panormos Beach
Golden sand, working harbour, tavernas steps from the water

About
sits on the northwest coast of Skopelos, tucked inside a deep natural harbour inlet that has sheltered fishing boats for generations. The beach stretches roughly 472 metres of mixed golden sand and pebble, lapped by blue water that catches the afternoon light in long, shifting bands. It's a working port as much as a beach — you'll share the shoreline with moored fishing boats and the easy rhythm of village life. A strip of tavernas lines the back of the beach, so lunch is never more than a sandy walk away. The gradual entry into the water makes it one of the more family-friendly spots on the island.
How to get there
From Skopelos Town, the drive takes around 15 minutes by car, or you can hop on the bus for a 21-minute ride — both run daily. Access to the beach itself is easy. Free roadside parking is available in the village, so arriving by car is straightforward. If you're travelling light, the bus is a perfectly comfortable option.
Who it's for
For couples
The taverna strip at the back of the beach makes for an easy, unhurried evening — dinner with a harbour view after a late afternoon swim is a simple pleasure that's hard to beat on Skopelos.
For families
The gradual entry into the water and easy beach access make Panormos one of the more relaxed family choices on the island, though parents should keep a close eye on young children as the water deepens quickly just a few metres from the shore.
Our take
Panormos is the kind of beach that doesn't need to try hard. It's a real working harbour that happens to have a good stretch of golden sand, a gradual entry for families, and tavernas close enough that you can smell the grill from the water. The swimming is moderate — the water deepens faster than it looks, so keep that in mind if you're with young children or less confident swimmers. The northwest coast shelter keeps conditions calm most of the time, and the moderate visitor numbers mean it rarely feels overwhelmed even in summer. Nearby Adrina, Milia, and Kastani beaches are all within a couple of kilometres, so Panormos makes a natural base for a day of beach-hopping. It won't win prizes for drama, but it delivers exactly what it promises: an honest, family-friendly Aegean harbour beach with food and shade close at hand.
What to do
The nearby Adrina Beach, about 1 km away, is a small pebble cove framed by three pine-covered offshore islets — well worth the short detour. Milia Beach, roughly 2 km from Panormos, is Skopelos's longest pebble beach and backed by an unbroken pine forest. Kastani Beach, also around 2 km away, is famous as a Mamma Mia filming location and has a seasonal bar. For a different perspective, the Watch Tower is about 3.8 km from the beach.
The fishing boat anchorage at the harbour end of the beach gives you layered foreground interest — colourful hulls against blue water.
The taverna strip photographed from the waterline at dusk, with warm light spilling onto the sand, is the classic Panormos frame. For a wider perspective, shoot the full curve of the bay from the village road above.
Where to eat
To Delfini, a Greek restaurant right at the beach, is the obvious first stop for fresh seafood and local dishes after a swim. Blo is just 0.2 km away if you want something a little different. For a broader menu including pizza and seafood, Oasis is about 3.6 km from the beach and worth the short drive.
Where to stay
Panormos Beach Hotel sits just 0.2 km from the water, making it the most convenient base if you want to roll straight from bed to beach. Further along, Delphi and Anna-Maria Vanessa are around 3.3–3.5 km away and offer a quieter village setting. Ionia Skopelos and Sun Accommodation, at 5.6 km and 5.9 km respectively, suit those who prefer to explore the wider island.
Photography
The best shots come from the harbour end of the beach at golden hour, when the fishing boats are silhouetted against the blue water and the taverna lights begin to flicker on. Early morning is ideal for wide-angle frames of the full 472-metre beach before swimmers arrive.
Good to know
Be aware that the water deepens quickly just a few metres from the shore — non-swimmers and young children should stay very close to the water's edge and always within arm's reach of an adult. The northwest coast position means the bay is naturally sheltered. The beach sits inside a working harbour, so expect occasional boat traffic near the water. Moderate visitor numbers keep things relaxed outside peak summer weeks, but arriving before midday in July and August secures the best spot.
