Easton's BeachUnited States Beach Guide
Golden sand, blue water, and Newport's lively shore

About
Easton's Beach stretches roughly 1,038 metres of golden sand along the Rhode Island coast near Newport, where blue Atlantic water rolls in under open northeastern skies. It's an urban beach with real energy — lifeguards on duty, a carousel on-site, and families spread across the sand from one end to the other. The lively vibe here is genuine: this is a working community beach, not a secluded cove. The setting is straightforward and honest — golden sand meeting blue water, with Newport's character woven right into the shoreline.
The MOOVSWELL of Easton's Beach
The moment after.
MOOVSWELL is a state of mind. The wave is the action, the rush; right after comes the calm, the breath, that moment where you slow down and find your balance again. This score measures what a beach does to you in that very moment.
Here, you join the crowd
Dominant profile : Momentum + Echo
You land in the middle of real beach life — kids, waves, a carousel spinning, and golden sand going everywhere.
It's busy and open, not quiet. The space is there but the noise fills it fast.
Lifeguards, families, Atlantic waves rolling in — this place is always moving, always switched on.
The golden sand and blue water are genuinely pretty, but the crowd keeps it from feeling gentle.
That carousel stays with you. Not many beaches have one. Newport gives it a real sense of place.
How to get there
Easton's Beach sits on Little Ida Lewis Rock and is reached by boat or ferry only — there is no road access. From Newport, Interstate Navigation Company, Inc. operates a ferry to Block Island in approximately 60 minutes. Alternatively, you can depart from Point Judith with the same operator for a roughly 55-minute crossing, or from Quonset Point via Rhode Island Fast Ferry to Oak Bluffs in about 90 minutes. Seaplane access is also an option. There is no parking at the beach — plan your journey entirely around the ferry or boat schedule.
Who it's for
For couples
The ferry crossing itself sets a relaxed tone before you even reach the sand, and the combination of golden beach, blue water, and a vintage carousel gives couples a genuinely different afternoon compared to a standard drive-up beach.
For families
Lifeguards on duty, a carousel steps from the sand, and the Easton's Beach Snack Bar on-site make this one of the more practically equipped family beaches on the Rhode Island coast — the 1,038-metre stretch gives kids plenty of room to run.
Our take
Easton's Beach delivers exactly what it promises: a lively, lifeguarded, family-oriented urban beach with golden sand, blue water, and a carousel that earns its place in every photo. The ferry-only access is the defining logistical fact — plan around it carefully, because missing the boat is not a minor inconvenience. June through September is the window that makes sense here; outside those months the temperate Northeast climate works against you. The on-site snack bar and the cluster of restaurants within 1.7 km mean you're well fed without much effort. It's not a remote escape and it doesn't pretend to be — this is Newport's beach, urban and proud of it.
What to do
The carousel at Easton's Beach is a genuine draw, especially for younger visitors, and it's one of those details that sets this beach apart from a plain stretch of sand. Just 2.1 km away, Save The Bay's Hamilton Family Aquarium offers a worthwhile detour for anyone curious about the local marine environment. The Breakers Observation Area, also 2.1 km out, gives you a different perspective on Newport's coastline, and if you want to go further, Breakers Stable & Carriage House is about 2.5 km from the beach.
The carousel against the golden sand is the signature shot at Easton's Beach — frame it with the blue water behind for a classic Newport summer image.
The waterline at low tide gives you a clean reflection of sky on wet sand, best captured in the soft light of early morning before the beach fills up.
Where to eat
Right on the beach, Easton's Beach Snack Bar handles the basics so you don't have to haul a full cooler. A short distance away — around 1.6 km — Ben's Soft Serve Cones and Ben's Chili Dogs cover the classic beach-day cravings. If you want something more substantial after the sand, Boru Noodle Bar and Mel's Cafenio (Greek) are both within 1.7 km, and Newport Tokyo House offers sushi at 1.6 km.
Where to stay
The Chanler at Cliff Walk is the closest option at 0.6 km. Rhea's Inn by the Sea at 0.8 km and The Seabreeze Inn at 1 km both keep you within easy reach of the ferry and the beach. If you need more flexibility, Mill Street Inn and Pelham Court Hotel are 1.6 km and 1.8 km out respectively.
Photography
The golden sand against the open blue water photographs best in the early morning when the light is low and the beach is quieter — the carousel makes a distinctive foreground subject. Late afternoon from the water's edge looking back toward Newport gives you warm directional light across the sand.
Good to know
Arrive early in the summer months — June through September is peak season and the beach earns its lively reputation fast. Lifeguards are on duty, so swim within flagged zones and follow their instructions at all times. This is not a naturist beach, so standard swimwear applies. The nearest major airport is Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport, about 28.6 km away, so factor travel time into your ferry connections.
