Baracataggio Beach
Golden sands, Genoese tower views, blissfully quiet Cap Corse

About
Baracataggio is a compact 200-metre cove on the wild northern tip of Corsica, tucked into the Cap Corse peninsula near the cliff-top village of Nonza. Golden sand meets blue water in a setting that feels genuinely off the tourist trail — the kind of place locals guard quietly. The silhouette of the Tour de Nonza watches over the bay from roughly a kilometre away, giving every glance inland a cinematic edge. It's small, it's calm, and the relaxed pace here is the whole point.
How to get there
Baracataggio sits within the commune of Nonza, about 20 minutes by car from Saint-Florent on daily road connections. Access is rated easy. Free parking is available on-site, but spaces are limited and height restrictions apply — campervans and motorhomes are prohibited, so plan accordingly if you're travelling in a larger vehicle. Ferry connections serve Corsica via operators including Grandi Navi Veloci and CTN Ferries, with crossings ranging from around 4.5 hours to overnight routes.
Who it's for
For couples
The quiet cove atmosphere and unhurried pace make Baracataggio a natural choice for couples who want a beach to themselves rather than a scene — the tower views add a romantic backdrop without any effort.
For families
Safe swimming and easy access make this a practical family beach, and at 200 metres it's compact enough to keep an eye on children easily. Just note that campervan-style road trips end at the parking barrier — come in a standard car.
Our take
Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen
Baracataggio doesn't try to impress you — and that's exactly why it works. It's a short, golden-sand cove with safe swimming, free parking, and a Genoese tower on the skyline. The beach is quiet in the best possible sense: not undiscovered, just not overrun. Come between June and September, leave the campervan at home, and keep your expectations simple. The reward is a genuinely relaxed afternoon on one of Cap Corse's more characterful stretches of coast. Worth the detour from Saint-Florent.
What to do
The Tour de Nonza, a well-preserved Genoese watchtower about 1 kilometre away, is the obvious first detour — it earns a 4.6/5 rating and delivers panoramic coastal views that put the whole peninsula in perspective. The village of Nonza itself, perched dramatically on the cliffs just 1 kilometre from the beach, rewards a slow wander through its medieval stone streets. If you want more sand, Plage de Pietracorbara is a solid alternative about 12 kilometres away, rated 4.5/5.
Frame the Tour de Nonza rising above the coastline from the southern end of the beach for a classic Cap Corse shot.
The golden sand against the blue water makes a clean foreground for wide-angle compositions at midday. The cliff-top village of Nonza, just 1 kilometre away, offers dramatic elevated angles looking back down toward the cove.
Where to eat
La Sassa, just 1.7 kilometres from the beach and rated 4.6/5 across over 2,500 reviews, is the closest and most convenient option after a swim. For something further afield, Le Conti in Bastia — around 14 kilometres away — holds an impressive 4.8/5 from over 1,200 reviews and is worth the short drive for an evening meal.
Where to stay
Pietracap Hotel, roughly 12.6 kilometres away and rated 4.6/5, is the closest well-reviewed base for the area. Bastia offers several solid options including Hôtel Port Toga (4.4/5, 13.8km) and Hotel Le Bastia (4.4/5, 14.2km) if you prefer a town setting with more amenities nearby.
Photography
Shoot from the waterline in the early morning when the golden sand catches low-angle light and the blue water is at its calmest. For the most iconic frame, position yourself on the beach looking inland to include the Tour de Nonza on the ridge — late afternoon light hits the tower beautifully.
Good to know
Height-restricted parking means campers are turned away — arrive in a standard car or you'll be hunting for alternatives. The beach is quiet by nature, so keep it that way: respect the cove's calm atmosphere. Avoid visiting in November through February, when winter storms and rough seas make conditions unpleasant and potentially unsafe. Swimming is rated safe in season, so the water is yours to enjoy from June through September.
