Phước Mỹ Beach
Da Nang's family shoreline with a dragon on the horizon

About
Bãi biển Phước Mỹ stretches roughly 1,500 metres along Da Nang's South Central Coast, its mixed sand shifting from pale to darker tones underfoot while turquoise water laps at a wider-than-average sand shelf that gives families plenty of room to spread out. The beach sits in An Hải Ward, close enough to the city that you can hear it breathe, yet the sea breeze keeps things fresh. Lifeguards patrol the shore, volleyball courts dot the sand, and on clear days the Dragon Bridge frames itself perfectly against the skyline to the north. It's busy — genuinely busy — on weekends, with local families claiming their patches early. The paved promenade along Võ Nguyên Giáp runs the full length, making it one of Da Nang's most accessible urban beaches.
How to get there
From Da Nang city centre it's a 10-minute drive or motorcycle ride; public buses run every 15–30 minutes from 5:30 AM to 7 PM, making car-free visits easy. Da Nang International Airport is just 5.9 km away, so you can drop your bags and be on the sand within the hour. Roadside free parking is available along the promenade, and paid lots operate near the larger hotels; motorcycles and bikes can park at East Sea Park for 5,000–10,000 VND. There is no entry fee for the beach itself.
Who it's for
For couples
An evening walk along the Võ Nguyên Giáp promenade, followed by the Dragon Bridge fire show on a weekend night, makes for an effortless date that costs almost nothing and delivers genuine spectacle.
For families
Lifeguard coverage, beach volleyball courts, easy bus access, and a wide sand shelf that keeps younger kids well back from deeper water make this one of Da Nang's most practical family beaches — not just a pretty one.
Our take
Feet in the sand, eyes on the screen
Rip currents after storms are a real hazard here — always check the flag before entering the water, and if it's red, stay out. Safety settled, Phước Mỹ is one of Da Nang's most honest urban beaches: no resort veneer, just local families, turquoise water, mixed sand, and a dragon-shaped bridge watching over the whole scene. It won't win awards for seclusion — it's busy on weekends and the city is audible — but that energy is part of what makes it feel alive. The wide sand shelf, lifeguard presence, and easy bus access make it a genuinely practical choice, not just a photogenic one. Skip October and November without hesitation; the typhoon season turns this beach dangerous. Come between November's end and April, stay for the Dragon Bridge fire show on a Saturday, and you'll understand why Da Nang residents keep coming back.
What to do
The Dragon Bridge (Cầu Rồng) is 3 km away and breathes real fire on weekend evenings — plan your dinner around it. Closer to the water, the Dragon's Head fire show and Han Swinging Bridge are both about 2.1 km along the riverfront and pair well into a single evening walk. For a half-day excursion, the Marble Mountains (Ngũ Hành Sơn) are 10 km south, offering limestone caves, pagodas, and sweeping coastal views, while the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture — 4 km away — holds the world's largest collection of Cham artefacts.
The northern end of the beach gives you the cleanest Dragon Bridge sightline — shoot at dusk when the bridge lights up and the turquoise water reflects the glow.
The volleyball courts at mid-beach make for lively action shots during the day, and the Võ Nguyên Giáp promenade at sunrise delivers long, empty perspective lines before the beach fills up.
Where to eat
For You Steakhouse and Seafood is 0.3 km from the sand and covers both surf and turf cravings in one stop. A short 0.4 km walk opens up several more options: Nhà hàng hải sản Bé Anh for fresh seafood, Phố nướng Tokyo for Japanese-style barbecue, and NEM Restaurant if you want Vietnamese dishes, wine, and dessert under one roof.
Where to stay
Chicland, Nalod, and Kamala Hotel are all within 0.3 km of the beach, putting you close enough to walk down in flip-flops. Jimy and Hà Bổng Hotel are a touch further at 0.4 km and tend to suit travellers who want a quieter street without sacrificing proximity to the shore.
Photography
The best Dragon Bridge sightline is from the northern end of the beach at dusk, when the bridge's lights ignite against a darkening sky — arrive 20 minutes before sunset to secure your angle. Early morning, before the daytrippers arrive, the turquoise water and mixed sand catch soft golden light with almost no one in frame.
Good to know
Obey the red flag — when lifeguards raise it, swimming is enforced closed, no exceptions. Typhoon season runs October through November, bringing dangerous surf and rip currents after storms; avoid those months entirely. If you want a volleyball court in peak season, ask about the booking system in advance rather than assuming one will be free. The paved promenade is wheelchair- and stroller-friendly, but the beach sand itself is uneven, so pick your spot carefully if mobility matters.
